Context and learning objectives
Our food and land use systems are at the heart of many complex challenges today: ensuring that everyone has enough good-quality food to lead an active and healthy life, combating global warming, halting the unprecedented loss of biodiversity, and achieving the other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Land-based production activities are also the most threatened by climate change and the loss of ecosystem services. Urgent action is therefore needed.
This training is intended for people interested in using the FABLE calculator (FABLE-C), a freely accessible Excel model that provides quantitative results for different food and land use system trajectories up to 2050. It allows users to compare the possible consequences of different actions and can thus provide valuable information for planning the desired transition of food and land use systems and the necessary policies.
The calculator was developed by the Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land, and Energy (FABLE) initiative and is currently used in more than 25 countries (https://fableconsortium.org/).
⚠️ Access to training
Access to this training course is contingent upon prior completion of the online course titled “Discovering the FABLE Calculator” (https://ihedd.ferdi.fr/formations/decouvrir-le-calculateur-fable), which is designed to familiarize participants with the calculator’s general operation.
Candidates must have completed the course and scored at least 60% on the final quiz to be eligible for selection for the “Understanding, Using, and Modifying the FABLE Calculator” training, which is dedicated to in-depth hands-on training with the tool.

Format
This training is delivered online, offering learners complete flexibility through unlimited access to content, available 24/7 on the IHEDD distance learning platform. Each participant can progress at their own speed, depending on their availability.
To encourage exchange and mutual support, a forum is available in the training space, complemented by a WhatsApp group to create a community of learners.
In addition, regular virtual meetings (online classes) are organised with trainers and the learner community. These sessions allow participants to go further into the concepts covered, discuss challenges encountered, and obtain answers to questions.
Validation of acquired knowledge
Upon completion of the course, a certificate is issued by Ferdi, a recognized professional training organization, on behalf of IHEDD. This certificate attests to the title of the course taken as well as the number of completed training hours. Obtaining the certificate is contingent upon passing a final assessment in the form of a quiz (score > 60%).
